Prevent fraudulent use of your mobile devices

The security of your funds may be at risk if your mobile phone or other device is lost or stolen, or if you take it for repairs or lend it to someone else.

The sheer amount of information most of us store on our mobile devices is a veritable treasure trove for fraudsters. Not only can devices like phones and laptops be used to gain access to your personal information like banking apps and online banking credentials, they can also be used to defraud your contacts through phishing or vishing.

To keep your information safe and protect your devices from unauthorised use, we recommend that you:

  • Secure the device with a strong password and PIN, pattern password, fingerprint or facial ID.
  • Always sign out of cellphone banking or the banking app as soon as a transaction is completed.
  • Never store banking credentials such as account numbers, PINs or passwords on a mobile device.
  • Install reputable and up-to-date anti-virus applications on all your devices.
  • Never click on any links or attachments in unsolicited emails or SMSs, even if they appear to be from a reputable institution like your bank.

If your mobile device is lost or stolen, please delink it from your banking profile immediately by following the steps outlined here.

If you suspect that your mobile device has been compromised, contact your Relationship Manager or call WIonCall on 0861 001 052 for assistance.
